Mann performs Christmas music on the hydraulophone for a Christmas concert at the Univeristy of Toronto's Knox College chapel. The hydraulophone works by pumping water through a boomerang-shaped pipe, which is covered in tone holes like a penny whistle, which the player covers to make different notes. Mann says he got his inspiration for the hydraulopone from the sound that water makes in household pipes. The instrument sounds remarkably like a pipe organ. |
